Habu Knitalong with Susan Thompson, Thursdays 6-8pm September 16, October 14, November 18, Free
Bring the projects you are working on that use Habu fibers. I know there are a lot of you working on Habu kits or patterns from Cocoknits, Haiku Knits and/or Ori Ami Knits. Here's a chance to show and tell, get a little guidance and encouragement, and see how other projects are coming together.
LEARN TO KNIT with Craig McDonald, Sunday, September 19, 2010, 1-4pm, $35.00
Knitting is a wonderful, creative hobby. You can make beautiful useful items and it's a craft that is very portable. Many knitters always have a small project with them in case there is "waiting" time, ie; in the pick-up line at school, at a doctor's office, during a sporting event, etc. Also, there is something magical about taking yarn and watching it become fabric before your very eyes. This class is for those who have never knitted AND for those who need a refresher. You will get started knitting a scarf and will need 250 yards of a light chunky weight yarn and size US 11 needles. Come to class early and we will help you with your supplies.
LANESPLITTER SKIRT with Pavia Lewis, Saturday, September 25, 2010, 1-4pm, $35.00
The Lanesplitter skirt by Tina Whitmore would be a great addition to any Fall wardrobe. Diagonal stripes with contrast color ridges give this piece a stylish look. Knit on the bias to give a nice shape and on a US 10 needle for a quick knit. Pavia will show you how to knit the Lanesplitter in the length and size you desire. You will also learn how to knit on the bias, ssk, kf&b, knit with 2 different skeins of yarn at one time, and make a waistband. The pattern is available for free on www.knitty.com, Early Fall 2010. If you can knit and purl, you can make the Lanesplitter. The most difficult decision might be what color tights to buy!

FELTED FLOWERS with Fran Steinbock, Sunday, September 26, 1-4pm, $50.00 (includes $15.00 materials fee)
This with the class will focus on making flowers and leaves using the "Wet Felting" method. In essence, you will learn to make felt fabric using roving, (yarn before it is spun), soapy water and agitation. Fran will show you how to combine and blend colors for your felt fabric. Then you will be instructed on how to shape and assemble your felt pieces into a flower and make a stamen. It's an amazing process! These flowers are a nice embellishment on a felted bag or add a pin back for a werable art piece.
FELTED VESSELS with ROVING Fran Steinbock, Saturday, October 2, 2010, 1-4pm, $55.00 (includes $20.00 materials fee)
Create a felted vessel by the process of "wet felting". This is achieved by covering an inflatable ball with roving, adding warm soapy water, and agitation (in this case, bouncing). Fran has done similar classes for Fine Points, but has used wool "batts" in the past. This class will use roving, which makes the technique a little different than using batts, but roving is more available with a wider range of colors.(Fine Points sells roving by the ounce.) The only prerequisite for this class is that you need to be able to gently bounce a ball for 1/2 hour (breaks are permitted!). This is a great way to take a break from the stress of Holiday preparations. We guarantee you will have fun!!!! This class is limited to 10 participants.
CLAPOTIS with Pavia Lewis, Saturday, October 9, 2010, 1-4 pm, $35.00.
The Clapotis is a bias knit scarf/shawl with dropped stitches which gives this piece a lacey look that drapes beautifully when worn. This accessory was designed by a woman living in France who noted that many French woman wore scarves from late fall into spring for warmth and it also made them look very chic. The pattern available on www.knitty.com has been made by thousands (almost 16,000 have been posted on Ravelry) which is a great endorsement for this design. Pavia has made 11 of them! This scarf can be made in laceweight yarn up to dk weight. Once you understand the pattern, you can determine the finished size of your own Clapotis. There are a few little twists and turns to the knitting, and Pavia will explain it all. Tres chic!

FEBRUARY LADY SWEATER with Pavia Lewis, Saturday, November 13, 2010, 1-4pm, $35.00
The February Lady Sweater is knit from the top-down (alas, no finishing!), with a garter stitch bodice, lacework body, and 3/4 sleeves. It's an adaptation by Pamela Wynne of Flint Knits, of a baby sweater by Elizabeth Zimmerman. The pattern includes finished bust sizes from 35"-52". As the woman who developed the pattern states, it's meant to fit "grown-ass women"! Pavia was wearing it at A Knitter's Fantasy and we, along with just about everyone else commented about how lovely it was. And, she agreed to teach the class. You're going to learn a lot in this class; how to knit a sweater from the top/down, make buttonholes, work a lace pattern and use lifelines (a way to manage lace while knitting). This class is appropriate for those with basic knitting skills who can knit, purl, cast on and bind off. The February Lady is knit using worsted weight yarn, on a US 8 needle with a gauge of 4.5 sts/inch. The pattern is available to download for free at flintknits.com. Please select your yarn prior to the class date to ensure you'll have the yardage amount needed. (PS As of Sept 2010, there were almost 10,000 "Ladys" posted on Ravelry. This sweater is a real winner.)
